Rainn Wilson & Lil Rel Howery Teaming For Action-Comedy ‘Code 3’

Rainn Wilson and Lil Rel Howery have signed on to produce and star in Code 3, a buddy action-comedy from Wayfarer Studios and Circle of Confusion.

Christopher Leone (Parallels) will helm the film which follows a day-in-the-life of two overworked, underpaid, and nearly burnt-out paramedics. One EMT is quitting, though he first must embark on one last 24-hour shift to train his replacement. Everything that could happen on the job, from the mundane to the extreme, of course happens on this final, exhilarating day.

Leone has co-written the script alongside Patrick Pianezza, a former paramedic. Angela Cardon will oversee the project for Wayfarer Studios. President of the company, Jamey Heath, said in a statement:

Code 3 is a fresh buddy action comedy from Patrick and Christopher that will take the audience on an introspective journey. It demonstrates how our interactions with strangers can have profound impact. We are beyond excited for this film and the fact that Rainn and Lil Rel are on board is fantastic.”

Wilson is of course best known for his role on the US version of The Office. Last year he was seen in two other comedies, Jerry And Marge Go Large and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. He’s currently filming comedy-drama Inappropriate Behavior alongside Robert De Niro and Bobby Carnavale. He also has a key supporting role in thriller series Dark Winds.

Howery had a busy 2022, appearing in I Love My Dad, Spin Me Round, Deep Water, Bromates, and animated film Luck. He’ll next be seen in crime comedy The Out-Laws, live-action children’s book adaptation Harold and the Purple Crayon, and will soon begin work on comedy film Reunion, in which he will star.

Production on Code 3 will reportedly begin in Los Angeles next month.
