Rebel Wilson To Produce & Star In Adaptation Of ‘Crowded’ Comic Book | Film News

Rebel Wilson has become the latest star to attach themselves to a comic book adaptation. The Pitch Perfect actress has signed on to produce and star in an adaptation of the comic book Crowded, which is written by Christopher Sebela and drawn by Ro Stein and Ted Brandt.

The story takes place in a future where the world’s economy revolves around job sharing and apps. The latest trend is Reapr, a crowdfunding app that funds assassinations. An ordinary woman named Charlie is shocked to find that she has become a Reapr target, and to protect herself she hires lowest rated bodyguard on the Dfend app, Vita. Action and hilarity ensue.

The project is still currently a fair way off as the search is still on to find a writer to adapt the comic book. Wilson will produce under her Camp Sugar production banner along with Oni Entertainment. Sebela will also serve as a consulting producer for the film.

A Crowded adaptation has all the makings of a hit action/comedy – and perhaps even more with its apt commentary on capitalism and technology – but it will be interesting to see how the premise is adapted for the big screen. Keeping the essence of what made the comic book so good will be key, so hopefully they bring on board a writer who’s willing to keep as much of the original story intact as possible.

Crowded won’t be the first film that Wilson is producing under her new banner, as Camp Sugar is currently performing post-production on its first film, The Hustle, a Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake that stars Wilson alongside Anne Hathaway. It is currently scheduled to hit cinemas on May 10, 2019.
