RHCP’s Klinghoffer On ‘Idiots’ Comparing Him To Frusciante | Music News

Guitarist, John Frusciante, has not been involved with the Red Hot Chili Peppers since 2006’s Stadium Arcadium, and their new guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer, has the dubious honour of constantly being compared to him. This is apparently really beginning to irk Frusciante’s replacement, who joined the band in 2009.

“Of course it gets annoying. On one hand, it’s an honour for me to be part of this band and be mentioned in the same breath as Frusciante. But all these comparisons are simply absurd”.

He then went on to label those people making the comparisons as “idiots”, following with, “Because we are two totally different people. I have never tried to emulate his technique. And, of course, I was not trying to get him to leave the band”.

While he and Frusciante used to make music together, Klinghoffer says their working relationship is not what it used to be, saying, “It’s not good, and not bad. I would say there’s no relationship at the moment”.

“He tried as much as possible to distance himself from the band and I had to learn to live in it. We have not fought, our paths just diverged somehow. I think someday we can talk again”.

RHCP have just recently released their latest studio album, The Getaway.
