Richard Ashcroft On Noel Gallagher Collaboration: ‘I Wish This Would’ve Happened Years Ago’ | Music News
Britpop trailblazer and The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft has spoken on the possibility of working with Oasis’ Noel Gallagher in a recent interview with the NME, as well as scathingly attacking the modern British music industry. The comments came after Gallagher said last year that he’d be open to making an album with Ashcroft, who called Noel’s words “a great compliment”.
On the state of the music industry, he lamented that “The mainstream consumed our culture” and bemoaned the lack of a “good, solid, British alternative“. He also expressed a degree of admiration for Kanye West, drawing comparisons to the rapper’s career and his own.
Richard Ashcroft’s next solo album These People is released in May.
