‘Rogue One’ Director Gareth Edwards Directing Sci-Fi Film ‘True Love’

Rogue One director Gareth Edwards is re-teaming with his cinematographer from that movie, Greig Fraser, for a sci-fi film titled True Love that recently began shooting in secret. The film reportedly stars John David Washington and has been kept quiet by New Regency and 20th Century Studios, who are financing the film and distributing it, respectively.

Very little is known about the film, but Edwards has shown a love for the sci-fi genre throughout his career, which kicked off with the low budget Monsters in 2010, which led to him helming 2014’s Godzilla, before teaming up with Fraser on Rogue One.

Fraser also has experience with sci-fi films, having shot Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune (and returning for Part 2). He also previously shot films such as Zero Dark Thirty, Foxcatcher, and Lion, and also shot Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman.

Edwards has also written the True Love screenplay and will serve as a co-producer alongside Kiri Hart. Alongside Washington, Gemma Chan, Danny McBride, Benedict Wong, and Allison Janney are reportedly starring in the film.

Hopefully we’ll get some details soon about the project, but combining that cast with Edwards’ sci-fi passion and Fraser’s beautiful images should be a recipe for success. The film currently does not have a release date.
