Although 2002’s xXx (or ‘Triple X’) received a lukewarm response from critics, there’s no denying that it was a massive hit with its audiences. The story that followed rebellious athlete Xander Cage becoming a NSA agent who foils Russian terrorist groups struck a chord somewhere. The money-makers over in Hollywood rubbed their hands with glee and ordered a sequel whilst puffing from their comically large cigars.

This sequel, xXx: State of the Union, bombed and sent Lee Tamahori’s directorial career, once gloriously realised in 1994’s Once Were Warriors, into a downward spiral from which he has not recovered. Then in August this year, 10 years since that ill-fated sequel, star of xXx Vin Diesel announced a third film in the xXx series.

Vin Diesel, who played Xander Cage, is known for delivering breaking news via social media and now he has revealed via Facebook that Samuel L. Jackson will be returning to play NSA agent Augustus Gibbons, a role he is reprising from the first two films. Diesel also broke the news that UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor (who knocked out his championship opponent in 13 seconds on December 12) will also be starring in the film. Currently going by the name xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, this project has no set release date just yet but will undoubtedly have fans of the series grinning from ear to ear.
