Two-time Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan is signed on to play the lead in another Ian McEwan adaptation, On Chesil Beach.

The story is set in the 60s and will see the Irish actress take on the role of Florence, the daughter of a successful businessman, who is a talented violinist.

She dreams of a career on the concert stage and anticipates the perfect life she will create with Edward, a shy and sensitive history student. As they check in a hotel in Dorset for their honeymoon, the young lovers, both educated and virgins must come face to face with their hidden anxieties and fears.

This will mark the second time Saoirse Ronan stars in a movie, based on Ian McEwan’s novels since Atonement (2007) which helped her land her first Academy Award nomination.

The picture will be produced by the team behind Carol, Stephen Woolley and Elizabeth Karlsen and will mark the film debut of Dominic Cooke who helmed the TV mini-series The Hollow Crown.

The shoot is expected to take place in autumn. Meanwhile, Saoirse Ronan will be occupied with her Broadway debut in The Crucible and Greta Gerwig‘s directorial debut Lady Bird.
