Sasha Lane Joins ‘Hellboy’ Reboot | Film News

The Hellboy reboot continues adding a bevy of interesting talent. Sasha Lane, having recently broken out after starring in Andrea Arnold‘s American Honey, has joined the cast of Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen.

Lane is lined up to play Alice Monaghan, a young woman previously captured by fairies who is rescued by Hellboy, while retaining some supernatural gifts she picked up while kidnapped.

Lane will star alongside David Harbour, Ian McShane and Milla Jovovich in the film, which will be directed by Neil Marshall. The director has also confirmed that the film will be Rated-R, in order to give his version a stamp of its own to differentiate this rebooted potential franchise from the previous films directed by Guillermo Del Toro:

“We’ve been granted permission to do it R-rated, which for me is just like taking the cuffs off. It’s like, okay, so now we can just make the movie we want to make. It’s not like I’m going to force it to be R-rated, but if it happens to come out that way, just because of my own sensibilities, then fine. And nobody’s going to stop us.

So, that’s the main thing. And I’m sure, obviously, the success of things like Deadpool and Logan have not hurt that cause. But, also, when you go back the original material, it is kind of bloody, so I’m going to embrace that”.

Plenty of good news has come out of the Hellboy camp over the past few months, turning what at first seemed a potentially underwhelming reboot into something with an intriguing, eclectic cast and free reign to make the project as close to the source material as possible. Now let’s hope all this potential turns into a great finished product.
