After a year’s long wait, grime MC Skepta’s highly anticipated album, Konnichiwa, is finally due for release on Friday, May 6. Just ahead of that release, though, the Londoner has decided to share a new video for his single, “Man”.
It opens eerie, downright scary, even. The raps are serious, joined with low, trumpeting brass. There’s violent shouting providing paradoxical respite to the listener, prior to the start of the second verse. The backdrop, in its closing moments, rises above the violence but still remains very much moody.
The Risky Roadz-directed clip is lo-fi, adopting the classic look of earlier camcorder-filmed visuals, and finds Skepta and his gang giving it large around nightspots in the Big Smoke.
