Sony Taps ‘Captain Marvel’ & ‘Chaos Walking’ Writers For ‘Silver & Black’ | Film News

The first teaser for Venom (smartly sans any actual footage of Venom) dropped last week, and now Sony will continue to build their catalogue of non-MCU titles. After Venom, Silver Sable and Black Cat are the heroes next in line to headline their own movie; Silver & Black. Two writers have now been hired to pen the screenplay.

Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet have been hired to write the most recent draft of the script. Both have lent their talents to a number of highly anticipated films, with Robertson-Dworet having worked on Captain Marvel and Tomb Raider, and Beer on Doug Liman‘s dystopian sci-fi Chaos Walking and Sony’s upcoming Barbie movie.

Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Secret Life Of Bees, Beyond The Lights) will direct the film, while she has also penned an earlier draft of the script. In fact, the script has had quite a few writers take a crack at it, including Thor: Ragnarok writer Chris Yost and Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy.

What plot exactly Silver & Black will revolve around is as yet unclear, and it will be interesting to see how the film introduces the two characters to a wide audience who might not be as familiar with them as avid comic book fans are. Silver Sable is a war-criminal hunting mercenary, while Black Cat is a Robin Hood-style burglar for the people.

They are both regulars in Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, and much like the Venom movie, it’s unclear how much overlap there will be with Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man. The interesting, mysterious relationship between Sony and Marvel has seemed to hint at both separate universes and some sort of crossover equally, so we’ll have to wait and see.

With genre veterans Beer and Robertson-Dworet now on board, and with the script having had plenty of writers put their own spin on it, one would hope we’re not far away from a finished product. Once that happens, attention can turn to casting, and there’s no doubt both lead roles will be heavily in demand.
