‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Screenwriting Duo Returning For Sequel | Film News

Making $737 million worldwide means you’re doing something right in the eyes of Hollywood producers. Spider-Man: Homecoming got a lot of love for its more comedy-centric vibe than some of the other MCU films, thus it’s no surprise that the writers of the film, Chris McKenna and Eric Sommers, will be returning to write the sequel.

While Homecoming fell into the traps of other MCU films plot-wise, it certainly nailed the high school soap opera element that hadn’t really been seen in any prior Spider-Man films and the central focus on comedy kept it relatively refreshing.

It’s no surprise that McKenna and Sommers were able to make the film funny, considering they’ve cut their teeth writing for shows such as American Dad! and Community, while also going on to write films such as The Lego Batman Movie.

Marvel is also reportedly looking to bring back Jon Watts to direct and naturally keep Tom Holland on board as Peter Parker to ensure that a successful creative team sticks together.

Homecoming hasn’t yet opened in China, so its worldwide box office revenue will only continue to rise, making the film even more of a hit, and making the sequel have every chance of being an even bigger one.

Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is set to swing into cinemas July 5, 2019.
