Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues its interstellar run at the Box Office,  with Disney announcing that the J.J Abrams-helmed sequel will cross the hallowed $900 million mark domestically – making it the first film in history to do so.

Furthermore, the film is expected the cross the $2 billion worldwide mark on Saturday, a stunning achievement for any film. However the domestic mile stone is perhaps more striking, as it leaves James Cameron’s Avatar in second place and set a very high bar to cross.

This adds to the large number of milestones the Star Wars sequel has crossed; including Biggest Domestic Preview Gross, Biggest Opening Day Domestically to name but a few. However it is unlikely to set the mark for the highest grossing film of all time, with the global rollout of the film slowing considerably, meaning it will fall short of Avatar’s $2.78 billion mark.
