‘Suicide Squad 2’ May Introduce Dwayne Johnson As Black Adam | Film News
There’s been a lot of talk recently about the upcoming Shazam! film starring Zachary Levi and the standalone Black Adam film starring Dwayne Johnson. Johnson clarified earlier in the year, before the Black Adam film was announced, that we shouldn’t expect to see Shazam’s most famous antagonist in the Shazam! film. Now we know why.
Per The Wrap, Warner Bros. is reportedly planning to introduce Johnson as Black Adam to audiences in Suicide Squad 2. Two separate insiders confirmed that “the current plan for the sequel is for the members of Suicide Squad to be tasked with tracking down a weapon of mass destruction. That weapon? Black Adam himself”.
That doesn’t sound too dissimilar to the plot of the first Suicide Squad, but after that film disappointed on all levels, perhaps Warner Bros. feels the sequel needs a shot in the arm to get fans back on its good side.
This report would line up with what Johnson told Fandango back in May: “We have a really cool surprise for Black Adam that I can’t reveal, in terms of where we will see Black Adam being introduced”.
With Johnson set to be a major player in the DCEU, but not exactly playing a character most audiences will be familiar with, it makes sense to debut him in an ensemble superhero film as a big deal before then moving onto his own solo film.
Suicide Squad 2 is set to be written by Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant), and possibly directed by him, too. Production is set to begin in the third quarter of 2018, and while the report states Johnson will have a busy schedule shooting such projects as Jungle Cruise, the Fast & Furious spinoff and possibly another season of Ballers, the schedule shouldn’t be an issue as the Black Adam part won’t take much time to shoot.
The film currently doesn’t have a release date, but Suicide Squad 2 just got a whole lot more interesting.
