Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks, most recently seen in Blade Runner 2049, is set to star in a biopic of Sylvia Kristel from director Michael R. Roskam (Bullhead, The Drop). The currently untitled drama will focus on Kristel’s career in the 1970s and 80s when the Dutch model became known for the erotic drama Emmanuelle, which became a worldwide phenomenon.
Kristel would reprise the role multiple times over the following years while also taking roles in projects such as Get Smart and Red Heat. However, her on-screen career was in direct contrast to her troubling personal life which included a series of strained relationships and a cocaine addiction.
Hoeks made waves for her role in Denis Villeneuve‘s Blade Runner 2049 as android Luv, while she also had a great performance in the under seen but quietly excellent 2013 thriller, The Best Offer. She’s also set to play Lisbeth Salander’s twin sister Camilla in the upcoming sequel, The Girl In The Spider’s Web, so this role is another coup for an actress quickly becoming a much talked about name in the industry.
Dimitri Verhulst is penning the script for the Kristel biopic, and filming will soon take place in France, Holland, Belgium and Los Angeles.
