Taika Waititi Planning ‘What We Do In The Shadows’ TV Spinoff | TV News

With Thor: Ragnarok hitting cinemas this week, director Taika Waititi can finally step out of Asgard and the clutches of Marvel to focus on other projects. The film that pushed him into the big time, What We Do In The Shadows, is still on his mind, as he’s planning three spinoffs to the film, of which one could be coming to television screens.

Waititi is developing a similar mock-doc about werewolves intended to be a film which is to star Rhys Darby, and he’s about to start shooting another spinoff in New Zealand which he describes as: “A spin-off following the two cops from the movie, as a sort of mockumentary X-Files [that takes place in] a certain small New Zealand town where they investigate paranormal activity”.

The other spinoff is the potential TV one, in which Waititi says: “We’re trying to develop a US version…you know, set here in the states, but a TV show”. The show would reportedly be a remake of sorts of the original 2014 mockumentary film that followed vampire flatmates, but altered to fit American TV better.

Whether Waititi fans are excited that he’s sticking with the acclaimed film that got him his big break or disappointed that he’s not developing totally new projects is unclear, but, assuming Thor: Ragnarok is a hit, he’ll probably have plenty of freedom to make whatever he wants in a few weeks.
