Taylor Swift Becomes First Woman To Receive Global Icon Award At 2021 BRIT Awards | Music News

American singer Taylor Swift is to receive the Global Icon Award at the 2021 BRIT Awards. The artist will be the first woman as well as the first American to receive the award, which is the highest honour given by the BRITs. In the past, only three artists have received the award: Sir Elton John, David Bowie and Robbie Williams.

The artist will be awarded for her “immense impact on music across the world and incredible repertoire and achievements to date”. The BRITs also added in a statement that “Taylor’s career is unparalleled and her music and influence has resonated with millions of people all over the world”.

Indeed, the singer’s career is quite impressive! She is the only female artist of the 21st century to have recorded seven number one studio albums in the official UK album chart. Taylor Swift is also nominated for the International Female Solo Artist of the Year award, which she previously won in 2015. She is competing against Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Cardi B and Miley Cyrus.

The ceremony will be hosted by Jake Whitehall this year, with artists such as The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo performing, and Coldplay opening the ceremony with their new track “Higher Power”, which was released a few days ago.
