Taylor Swift Donates $250,000 To Support Kesha After Court Ruling Against Her | Music News

Last Friday, the New York Supreme Court refused to issue a court injunction in favour of Kesha, who had filed a lawsuit in 2014 against Sony Music and producer Dr Luke. The singer, who wishes to be released from her contract with the company, claimed that Dr Luke sexually abused her.

However, the judge ruled against Kesha, stating “You’re asking the court to decimate a contract that was heavily negotiated and typical for the industry,” while adding “There has been no showing of irreparable harm. She’s being given opportunity to record”.

After the ruling, a lot of musicians, including Lady Gaga, Lily Allen and Demi Lovato, showed their support on Twitter, through a #FreeKesha campaign which aims at helping Kesha during this continuing legal battle. Among those, Taylor Swift has now donated $250,000 to financially support the singer.

However, Lovato criticised some artists for not openly speaking about the serious issue of rape, which many took as a comment against Swift who has remained silent. After Swift’s donation, her fans were quick to hit back and Lovato replied:

“How the fuck am I making it about myself?… Not everyone has 250k to just give to people. Would love to but I didn’t grow up with money and def haven’t made as much as her”.

“There’s no ‘rivalry’, I just give more fucks than other people and would rather start a dialogue ABOUT WOMEN COMING FORWARD ABOUT BEING RAPED than throw money at one person”.
