Awards season also means a fashion show for celebrities, and this weekend saw the 52nd NAACP Image Awards, which was hosted by actor Anthony Anderson for the eighth year running.

The ceremony celebrates and rewards performances in film and television, music and literature, but particularly performances by people of colour, and this year, personalities such as Issa Rae, Regina King and Viola Davis were honoured for their work.

Despite the fact that the ceremony took place completely virtually, the stars still managed to bring their touch of festivity by presenting their best outfits, for the most part on Instagram.

Issa Rae, who won the NAACP Image Awards for ‘Best Actress in a Comedy Series’ for the series Insecure, showed up in a sumptuous white Prada gown with silver beading and silver Stuart Weitzman sandals.

Viola Davis who had the honour of winning two awards, ‘Best Actress in a Motion Picture’ for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and ‘Best Actress in a Drama Series’ for How To Get Away With Murder, wore a brightly printed dress, custom made by British designer Duro Olowu.

Regina King, who went home without an award but was nominated in three categories, presented an impressive Oscar de la Renta gown in a copper colour with a cape and a bow at the shoulder.

Cynthia Erivo decided to wear a rather original dress, she pulled out all the stops with this creation from Lanvin styled by Jason Bolden. Her dress consisted of a silver net top and a ruffled skirt.

The renowned singer Alicia Keys chose a black dress from Versace, paired with gold jewellery for the event.

Janelle Monae was nominated for ‘Best Actress in a Motion Picture’ for Antebellum and decided to wear Christian Siriano this year, for a feminine and garish black and white ensemble.

To finish off the best looks of the NAACP Image Awards, Nicco Annan went all out with a floral Kamsi-Tcharles ensemble which he paired with Givenchy jewellery.
