It was a night full of stars in Santa Monica, California, where the ceremony of the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2018 was held yesterday. The 27th edition was hosted by American actress Tiffany Haddish and saw the participation of many worldwide stars.
Among the nominations, the Best Kiss was won by male couple Keiynan Lonsdale and Nick Robinson, starring in the 20th Century Fox movie Love, Simon.
This comedy-drama is a work by the same producers of The Fault in Our Stars, and reflects another hard, delicate and actual reality of our age, which is homosexual love in teenage years. The protagonist, Simon, has a wonderful life, goes to school and seems really happy but is hiding his love for another boy, who texts him frequently but keeps his identity secret.
The kiss between Bram and Simon in the movie, (Lonsdale and Robinson) won them the ‘golden popcorn’ and was followed by a spontaneous and sweet speech given by Keiynan, who attended the event without his fellow: “You can live your dreams and kiss the one that you love, no matter what gender they are“.
Lonsdale took the stage wearing a white skirt with a long gold-patterned jacket and got his forehead decorated too. This is the second consecutive year that a same-sex kiss has taken home the award. Last year was the turn of Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome, in Moonlight, another story that put on the screen and shared the important message about being yourself.
Both Robinson and Lonsdale admit they are proud because this recognition can mean a lot to people.
