The Drums – Encyclopedia (Album Stream) | New Music
The Drums have returned all shiny and new with their third album Encyclopedia. They’ve seen a rough couple of years as drummer Connor Hanwick left the group late 2012, leaving long time friends Jonny Pierce and Jacob Graham disheartened and unsure of the band’s future. Fortunately the duo powered on, shaping a new and honest sound.
The new album still encapsulates all that is The Drums but with less beachy bop and more airy synths. As Pierce told NME last July, “we’ve left the beach for higher ground, always searching for hope”. The repetitive layers of guitar and the summery beats are still evident throughout, except now we’re hearing more ambient synths and reverberated glockenspiel paired with a dampened vocal from Pierce. The album will be available September 23 from here, and you can stream the album below.
