‘The Goal’ Is The Posthumous New Song From Leonard Cohen | Music News

The acclaimed Canadian songwriter Leonard Cohen died almost three years ago, a few months after releasing his final album, You Want it Darker, leaving an unbridgeable gap in the music scene.

His newly released acoustic track titled “The Goal” is led by his trademark spoken word stylings, delivered slowly and directly, with the darkness that the song evokes, being pure and intimate. “I can’t leave my house”, Cohen intones, accompanied by a piano and an acoustic guitar. “Or answer the phone/ I’m going down again/ But I’m not alone”, he adds.

The new song from Leonard Cohen belongs to a collection of previously unheard works which will be released under the name of Thanks For The Dance. This album has been described as “an unexpected harvest of new songs” and “a continuation of the master’s work”. The future release of this work has been driven by the desire of Leonard Cohen, who had asked his son, Adam, to complete the left over pieces.

As his son Adam Cohen said: “I believe that there are some really beautiful new songs of Leonard Cohen that no one’s heard that are at some point going to come out… There are these songs that exist that he wanted finished, these incredible powerful readings that were set to music. It’s going to surprise and delight.”

The album Thanks For The Dance, will be released on November 22.
