‘The Lion King’ Officially Announces Live-Action Cast, Beyonce Among Stars | Film News

Jon Favreau’s live-action adaptation of Disney classic The Lion King has slowly been revealing details of its cast over time, but now, the official lineup has been announced. It was none another than international Queen, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter who shared a picture of the cast on her Facebook, revealing her own involvement in the long awaited project.

The post shows Beyoncé to be starring as Nala, opposite Atlanta and Community‘s Donald Glover as Simba – JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph voice their younger counterparts. Of the cast, James Earl Jones is the only actor returning from the animated original, of course reviving the role of Mufasa.

Chiwetel Ejiofor voices Scar, with big shoes to fill after the iconic performance by Jeremy Irons in the original. Alfre Woodard is Sarabi, whilst British comedian John Oliver plays Zazu, originated by Rowan Atkinson.

John Kani is Rafiki; funny guys Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen voice Timon and Pumbaa, respectively; Eric Andre is Azizi, Florence Kasumba, Shenzi. Keegan-Michael Key will play Kamari.

The line up is certainly a great one, with plenty to be excited about. The film is set to be released in 2019, for The Lion King’s 25th anniversary.
