Tikashi Miike’s ‘Yakuza Apocalypse’ Gets US And UK Release | Film News

For those familiar with the work of prolific Japanese auteur Takashi Miike, it may seem hard to believe that his latest genre-bending slice of madness, Yakuza Apocalypse, premiered earlier this year at Cannes Film Festival. Harder still that such a surreal entry would pick up two major Western distribution deals with Samuel Goldwyn Films and Manga Entertainment in the US and UK respectively. However, apparently that is the world we now live in.

Yakuza Apocalypse follows mentor and mentee gangsters, Kamiura (Lily Frankly) and Kageyama (Hayato Ichihara), in a tale of vengeance, vampires, and… well, just about everything else you could expect from Miike’s surreal imagination. With stop motion animation, slapstick body horror, and creature feature madness abound, this supernatural martial arts comedy looks like a whole lot of foolish fun. Check out the Japanese trailer below, Yakuza Apocalypse will be available in the UK on Blu-Ray and DVD from October 12, 2015.
