Tinashe Talks Racism And Sexism In The Music Industry | Music News
In a recent interview with xoNecole, American singer Tinashe has expressed her views regarding racism in the music industry. The young singer and actress has spoken out about her struggles to represent the black community in an industry that allows room for one black female artist in each genre.
In her words: “People feel like there is only room for one. There is a Beyoncé, there is a Rihanna, there is Zendaya, there is a Jourdan Dunn. There is a black girl in all of these positions and we don’t need another one”. She went on to say, “it’s ridiculous because there are like a hundred blonde, white actresses and leading ladies. There are a hundred rappers that all virtually look the same, sound the same and dress the same and no one cares. But for some reason, when it comes to young women, they want to pit them against each other. There can’t be room. There can’t be five black girls winning. It’s weird“.
The singer’s upcoming second album Joyride, which follows her critically acclaimed debut record Aquarius, does not have a release date yet, but a teaser trailer can be watched below.
