‘To All The Boys’ Author Jenny Han Signs Overall Deal With Amazon

Jenny Han, the author behind the best-selling book turned movie franchise To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, is set to bring audiences more stories in on-screen form. But not for Netflix, who released all three To All The Boys films. Han has instead signed an overall deal with Amazon.

To mark the deal, Han has already launched her own production company titled Jenny Kissed Me, and she already has her first Amazon-backed project in the works – a series adaptation of her book The Summer I Turned Pretty.

First published in 2009, the novel follows teenager Belly. She’s obsessed with summertime, when she loves returning to her family’s beach house and reuniting with her friends Susannah, Jeremiah, and Conrad. Over the years, Belly has looked at Jeremiah and Conrad differently – as brothers, crushes, and best friends. And this particular summer might see those feelings come to a head.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is also the first book in a series, so there’s potentially plenty of seasons of a successful young adult TV show for Amazon to churn out.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said in a statement:

“Not only is Jenny Han a beloved and best-selling author, but she has also brought her voice to screens around the world, speaking to her fans with an authentic voice that inspires, moves and entertains her huge and growing fan base. We are so excited to now be the home for Jenny and her fantastic work to come. I know our global prime audience will thank us.”

Han herself added: “Adapting my novel, The Summer I Turned Pretty, into a television series at Prime Video has been an incredible experience, and I’m so thrilled to now expand my relationship with them.

I’ve been telling stories for as long as I can remember, first on the page, then onscreen, and now I’m delighted to start this new chapter: creating and championing stories about coming of age at every age for Prime Video’s global audience.”

Fans of Han’s work will be excited for this next chapter in her career. Considering the success of the To All The Boys movies, there’s probably a good chance that The Summer I Turned Pretty can find a similar audience. Amazon are perhaps banking on the fact that a TV adaptation will retain that audience for longer.
