Toni Collette, Jessie Buckley & David Thewlis Join Charlie Kaufman’s Netflix Project | Film News

Toni Collette, Jessie Buckley, and David Thewlis have joined the cast of Charlie Kaufman‘s upcoming Netflix film, I’m Thinking Of Ending Things. The Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind writer is adapting Iain Reid‘s novel. Jesse Plemons is already on board to star.

The novel revolves around a couple who go on a road trip, where one of them is considering breaking up, but make an unexpected detour. It’s set to explore the depths of the human psyche while questioning consciousness, free will, the value of relationships, fear and the limitations of solitude.

This is the latest tense film Collette has signed on for, which is no surprise considering the career renaissance she’s having after her performance in Hereditary. She also appeared in Netflix’s Velvet Buzzsaw and has a role in Rian Johnson‘s upcoming murder mystery, Knives Out.

Buckley broke out in the BBC series Taboo, which starred Tom Hardy, while she’s set to star in HBO’s limited series, Chernobyl. Thewlis is a legendary British actor at this point, having starred in everything from Mike Leigh films to Harry Potter. He’ll next be seen in the Amazon series The Feed, as well as James Cameron‘s Avatar sequels.

That’s a great cast for Kaufman to work his magic with. While he’s always been an acclaimed filmmaker, his lacklustre box office returns haven’t given studios enough trust to hand over funds to him. But with Netflix, that won’t be a problem. Considering the free reign they’re willing to give filmmakers, I’m Thinking Of Ending Things should be one of the most anticipated films set to arrive on the platform.
