Newcomer Jemma Johnson has shared her second single “Pretty In The Dark” from her forthcoming EP which due later this year.
The Leeds-based singer and songwriter started her music career with cover videos on YouTube. Jemma could build up a loyal fan community and at age 26 she already published 150 videos on the platform and received 8 million views on her covers.
But Jemma realised that she wants to tell her own stories and started to deliver her brand of honest, emotive songwriting. Her previous single “Did I Say Enough” was praised by music blogs and radio stations, even of Dean Jackson at BBC Introducing.
Furthermore the young artist could secure a slot on the BBC Introducing Lockdown Stage for Y Not Festival this summer. Now she follows up on the first successes and showcases her new electronic pop single “Pretty In The Dark”.
With the powerful and emotional track she describes “the honeymoon period of a relationship where you think it’s going perfectly, until you realise you’ve completely lost sight of who you really are”. Moreover the pop belter is an amalgamation of electronic and organic styles and is driven by Jemma’s honest songwriting.
“I’ve been in the position in the past where I subconsciously created a sort of alter ego because I thought that’s who the other person would want to be with. Looking back now, I don’t see it as a negative, it felt empowering, more so because it turns out they didn’t deserve the real me” she explains. Listen to the song below.
