Lancaster-based singer and songwriter Jessica Smucker has just shared her dreamy new single “Thunderclouds and Violins“, the first single to be released from her upcoming EP Lucid Stories, Tentative Lies, which will be released on October.
Before Jessica became a songwriter, she was writing poems. You can still hear the lyrical impact in her rhythm of the lyrics and the cadence of her voice. In her songwriting she connects daily life struggles everybody knows with a general concern of big world problems and expresses this emotions with honest and empathic lyrics.
In 2007 her musical career was about to start with performances all over the U.S and several wins in songwriting contests, including the Connecticut Folk Festival Song Competition and the SolarFest’s Singer/Songwriter Showcase Competition.
After her second full-length album was highly praised by radio stations and landed top positions in Pennsylvania’s album charts in 2014, she’s now returning with her third EP. “Thunderclouds and Violins” is settled as the first song, even though she wrote it after the other nine tracks had already been recorded and partially mixed.
The tune comes with a catchy melody, airy beats and organ, Wurlitzer sounds. Above all Jessicas clear and smooth vocals stand out and bring her thoughtful and lyrical songwriting across in a emotive way.
