Vic Mensa + Kanye West – U Mad | New Music

Earlier this year, we received demoed versions of the song “Wolves” featuring Vin Mensa, set to be the opener on Kanye West’s sixth studio album So Help Me God, this time it would appear it’s Mensa’s turn in the feature spotlight. The song, titled “U Mad”, which features Kanye’s auto-tuned voice asking us if we’re ‘mad’, firstly unveiled a few months ago at Kanye’s surprise KOKO gig. The song is Mensa’s first single since “Down On My Luck”, which was released last year through his independent imprint Save Money.

This new song however, displays a shift in terms of rap style and production. The refrain before the chorus subtly implements a heavy distorted guitar, similar to Kanye’s “Black Skinhead”, from his last album Yeezus. Mensa as an independent artist is yet to release a full length LP. Perhaps this is why he bellows on the chorus, “I don’t need y’all either“. However his ability to appear on Saturday Night Live with Kanye West, grace the Wireless Festival stage last year, among others, seems only to reinforce this sentiment.

A sentiment which he seems keen to maintain, regardless of the song’s obvious Billboard 100 chart topping potential, and how that may induce high album sales and commercial success. Instead of an album however, it is reported that this song will feature on his next mixtape Street Lights, set for release later this year, the follow up to 2013’s INNANETAPE.
