Voting For BAFTA’s New ‘Rising Star Award’ Is Now Open | Events

Film fans, here’s an exciting opportunity for you to get involved and help decide the winner of BAFTA‘s Rising Star Awards 2016. This is the only category open to a public vote, so you’ll be making movie history and someone’s dreams come true, all at the same time.

The EE Rising Star Awards honours the exceptional ability of a hand-picked selection of red-hot acting talent. This year’s nominees are a stellar line-up: John Boyega, Taron Egerton, Dakota Johnson, Brie Larson and Bel Powley. Boyega is currently thrilling Star Wars fan as new hero Finn, in a coveted lead role that has catapulted him to stardom. Egerton recently kicked-ass in Kingsman: The Secret Service, and in a twist of curveball-casting, we’ll next see him starring as Eddie The Eagle in a biopic of the hapless ski-er.

And who can forget Johnson’s nuanced take on naïve Anastasia Steele, who captures the eye and heart of aloof businessman Christian Grey in 50 Shades Of Grey? Larson is soon to be seen in breakout hit Room, and it’s very likely we’ll be hearing her name a lot more when the Oscar nominations are announced. And Brit actress Powley demonstrated a very fine San Franciscan accent in The Diary Of A Teenage Girl. This year’s Rising Star will be following in the footsteps of an impressive line-up of previous winners, including James McAvoy, Tom Hardy and Eva Green.

Online voting opens today (Wednesday January 6) on the EE  website and closes at 12 noon on Friday February 12. The 2016 BAFTA Awards takes place on Sunday 14 February, and if you cast your vote, you’ll be automatically entered into a prize draw to win VIP tickets to the event itself. Good luck!
