Carey Mulligan stars alongside Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter in the historical drama Suffragette. Directed by Sarah Gavron and written by Abi Morgan, Suffragette is the first film to document the iconic fight for women’s right to vote, which saw ordinary British women risking almost everything in protest of the one-sided law and society.
Led by Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep), the film follows Mulligan’s character Maud as she transitions from silent housewife to passionate activist, despite the threat of losing her family. Also starring Anne-Marie Duff, Ben Wishaw and Brendan Gleeson, Suffragette will open this year’s London Film Festival, and is already getting a positive buzz. Look out for Suffragette in cinemas on the 30th of October.
