Youth, the new film from Paolo Sorrentino, the director of Italian Oscar-winner The Great Beauty, premiered in Cannes in May and was released in Sorrentino’s native Italy shortly afterwards. As the middle of summertime isn’t the best time to release a movie designed to win awards, US and UK cinephiles are going to have to wait until December and January respectively until the movie hits cinemas here. The latest trailer, which you can watch below, makes the long wait all the worse, as it looks like we are going to have to wait longer for a film that is highly likely going to be one of the year’s best.
Youth stars Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel as lifelong friends vacationing in the Swiss Alps; Caine is a retired composer, whilst Keitel is a director with writer’s block trying to finish his new screenplay. Elsewhere in the A-list cast we have Rachel Weisz as Caine’s daughter, Paul Dano, Jane Fonda and most bizarre of all, Paloma Faith in her acting debut – playing herself. Youth hits UK cinemas on January 15, 2016.
