After a miniature ad campaign, including a teaser and poster small enough to require a magnifying glass, the official trailer for Marvel’s Ant-Man is finally here and it’s actually pretty awesome. I’m the first to admit I’ve been skeptical about the idea of a major blockbuster based on a hero with ant-like qualities but the new trailer has given me hope for a dark and heartfelt super hero movie. With a connection to his family values, witty humor and obligatory abs shot; Paul Rudd stars in the new trailer as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man.
Here’s the official synopsis; “Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world”.
While Ant Man suffers the issue of coming out the same year as the dominating Avengers: Age of Ultron, it does risk being forgotten within this year’s movie chart. Still, with an impressive first trailer, it looks like Peyton Reed‘s new superhero adventure could be a more personal, heartwarming story, especially with the running theme of Lang’s relationship with his daughter; “This is that chance to earn that look in your daughters eye, to become the hero she already thinks you are”. Also starring Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lily and Corey Stoll; Ant-Man hits theatres on July 17, 2015.
