Yorgos Lanthimos Movie ‘Kinetta’ To Be Released In The US For The First Time | Film News

One of the first movie of the experimental director Yorgos Lanthimos, Kinetta will be released for the first time in the US nearly fifteen years after its debut. The bold  film, which was first launched in 2005, made it clear at the time, what kind of director Lanthimos was. Indeed, he would go on to become the Greek New Wave pioneer as he is now known, only after a short time.

With the hard-to-find Kinetta, Lanthimos’ unique aesthetic and worldview made itself heard. It brings to the spectators, disturbing worlds that are bound by their own wild logic and weird rules. Thanks to this style in directing, he was poised to conquer the cinema world.

This experimental film was too far to be understood, and even in Greece, it didn’t receive so much attentions. Indeed, for this production, Yorgos Lanthimos got only one nomination at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in 2005. His first concrete recognition would come only with his Dogtooth movie.

Thanks to an initiative of New York’s Museum of the Moving Image, the film will finally be available in America. It will surely be something to which the American public is not used to, as they will experience something less pop than The Lobster or The Favourite.
