Yves Saint Laurent Exhibition ‘Style Is Eternal’ Coming To Country Durham | Fashion News

It’s been seven years since the fashion world lost one of it’s greatest designers, Yves Saint Laurent. With a vibrant career in fashion which began in 1957 at Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent was a true innovator who broke down walls to ensure women were liberated through fashion and not restrained. This Summer, the UK will be paying homage to the legendary designer via its first ever Yves Saint Laurent exhibition titled ‘Style Is Eternal’, taken from the famous Saint Lauren quote, “fashion fades, style is eternal“.

In 1967, he shed the traditional perception of women in skirts and designed a functional pantsuit. Laurent’s rebellious streak didn’t stop there, taking the humble black evening dress, adorning it with ostrich feathers around the waist and leaving it see through. We shouldn’t forget that these were designed in the latter half the 60’s in Europe and they weren’t the traditional clothes that were available around at that period.

The exhibition, which will be UK’s first big Yves Saint Laurent exhibition, will be featuring 50 outfits, many having never been shown outside of france. The Bowes Museum will be hosting the event and YSL’s former partner Pierre Berge said the event captured the traditional French-style chateau, adding that, “the museum and its location also clearly reflect Yves Saint Laurent’s and my own passion for inspiring, timeless places. It is the perfect setting for us – a museum built as a French chateau in the age of the Second Empire“. If you admire Yves Saint Laurent’s designs and want to see the exhibition. It will be running between the 11th of July and the 25th of October.
