So it’s official. The caped crusader has finally put down his mask. His director’s mask that is.
Variety have reported that Ben Affleck, who plays the titular character, has stepped down as director of the new The Batman movie. I think we can forgive him, though. He has some very good reasons which put our priority at the heart of this movie production.
“Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require”.
It makes sense. Affleck could find himself juggling way too many things, and the film could suffer as a result. By putting his focus into his character, he can offer a better performance to life long fans of the hero.
He states he will still be exceptionally committed. He remains a co-writer and producer on the project so he has got plenty to be getting on with. Phew. Take a well earned rest, Ben.
Right now, the focus seems to be on seeking out a new director to helm the project. Warner Bros. have stated their support for this, and the search is on to find someone who shares Affleck’s vision.
“Together with the studio I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film”.
No pressure then, Ben.
