“Til It Happens To You”, a 2015 single released by Lady Gaga has become a song to support victims of rape and sexual abuse. The song doesn’t specifically mention rape, but it has been played and mentioned in direct relation to sexual abuse several times.
With that in mind, Kesha covering the song at the Humane Society Gala in LA seemed more than appropriate; the long legal battle that Kesha fought to end her contact with Luke Gottwald due to claims of sexual abuse took a toil on the singer, and many, including Gaga, made a point to stand up for her. “I can’t watch another woman that went through what I’ve been through suffer” Gaga explained.
Once again showing what a great friend and supporter she is, the “Born This Way” singer took to Twitter to applaud Kesha’s rendition of “Til It Happens To You” by tweeting “I could feel your pain. Girl these boys won’t be in charge forever. The wisdom of women is rising. Let’s get louder”.
