Lupita Nyong’o In Negotiations For Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’| Film News

The Academy Award winner is reportedly in talks to join Ryan Coogler‘s Black Panther opposite lead Chadwick Boseman.

Marvel’s ‘Phase 3’ project is expected to start shooting early next year aiming for a February 2018 release. The script is an origin story and it will follow prince T’Challa’s ascend to the throne of Wakanda, one of Earths most technologically advanced nations. He must lead his nation after his father, king T’Chaka, is murdered in a treacherous plot.

The actress is rumoured to play Black Panther’s love interest, however, there is a catch here. In the comic books this is a certain ‘stormy’ X-men lady, known as Ororo Munroe. Of course, we may see the studio negotiating a compromise similar to Quicksilver, who appeared both in X-men and Marvel’s Avengers but it may be a completely original character altogether, so we have yet to see just how Lupita Nyong’o will fit in the story.

All this being said, Boseman’s performance was one of the highlights of Captain America: Civil War and it would be lovely to see Lupita tackle a role, which is not limited to motion capture, like her characters in Star Wars The Force Awakens and The Jungle Book. The talented actress will appear next in Disney’s Queen of Katwe and Star Wars‘ next installment.
