It has been announced that a refugee benefit compilation will be released by Glastonbury as part of a joint project with Oxfam. The album is to be made in honour of the British MP Jo Cox, who was tragically killed last Thursday (June 16). Cox was a passionate campaigner for refugees and was very devoted to her work at Oxfam, so it is very fitting that the piece should be dedicated to her.
Oxfam Presents: Stand As One – Glastonbury Live 2016 will be released digitally on July 11 and will feature live tracks from the festival weekend by Muse, Coldplay, Chvrches, Foals, Fatboy Slim and more.
Glastonbury’s official statement reads as follows:
“IT’S THE FIRST LIVE GLASTONBURY ALBUM OF ITS KIND. A HOST OF WORLD-FAMOUS MUSICIANS AND THE WORLD’S BEST-LOVED FESTIVAL STAND AS ONE WITH PEOPLE FORCED TO FLEE CONFLICT, DISASTER AND POVERTY. THE ALBUM IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF JO COX, MP, A FORMER OXFAM ACTIVIST, WHO CAMPAIGNED TIRELESSLY FOR REFUGEES. …
THE ALBUM IS PART OF OXFAM’S NEW CAMPAIGN, TO PUT PRESSURE ON WORLD LEADERS TO WELCOME MORE REFUGEES, TO PREVENT FAMILIES FROM BEING SEPARATED AND TO KEEP PEOPLE FLEEING THEIR HOMES SAFE FROM HARM. ALL PARLOPHONE’S PROFITS FROM THE ALBUM WILL GO TO OXFAM’S REFUGEE CRISIS APPEAL, PROVIDING LIFE-SAVING ESSENTIALS LIKE FOOD, WATER AND SANITATION”.
