Gender pay gap, difficulty in getting jobs, women struggle to get adequate representation in the global film industry have been well researched and documented over the years. Now a new study has been published asserting that they are outnumbered when it comes to reviewing films, too.
The San-Diego Centre for the Study of Women published the report, Martha Lauzen, the author of the report, commenting:
“The discussion of film…remains a heavily male pursuit, reflecting an industry with the same bias. Women’s underrepresentation among the top critics is not only an employment issue for women who write about film, it also impacts the amount of exposure films with female protagonists receive”.
