Jamie Hewlett Reveals Details On Gorillaz TV Show | Music News

It’s no surprise that virtual band Gorillaz would evolve towards something like a TV show or movie eventually. The characters have already been used to tell different stories through their music videos; the ones which accompany tracks from Plastic Beach form part of a music bigger story, like a short movie (watch a couple of them here and here). They even did an episode of MTV’s Cribs back in the day, led by a half-naked Murdoc!

The much-anticipated show will be a ten-part series and is set for a 2018 release. According to co-creator Jamie Hewlett in an interview with Exclaim, the characters will be 2D (not to be confused with their lovable blue-haired character) but the rest won’t necessarily follow suit:

“Everybody does CGI now, and it is great when you’re making backgrounds, like environments and landscapes, but not the actual characters. I’m still very much inspired by the work of Chuck Jones, and I love that animation. It’s art. I’d like to keep the characters in that style for the rest of this campaign. So the characters on the show will be 2D, but everything else is up for grabs”.

Who knows what this will look like when it’s finished? The band have appeared in various animation styles throughout the years (most recently in an interview with MistaJam), so anything is possible!

Oh and, no big deal, but Gorillaz’ first album in six years dropped earlier today! That’s right: Humanz is now available, so click here to buy it.
