Colossal is an action comedy directed by Nacho Vigalondo (known for Open Windows and The ABCs Of Death). It is starring Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis and Dan Stevens.
A synopsis for Colossal reads: “Gloria is an out-of-work party girl forced to leave her life in New York City, and move back home. When reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, she gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this phenomenon”.
First of all, I would like to start off by saying that this film is not for everyone. The action can be slow and boring at some points. I really enjoyed it because it’s starring two of my favourite actors: Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis.
I found their acting to be fantastic and I believe they made the movie more interesting. The idea of the film is that Hathaway controls a monster and Sudeikis a robot. They remote control them, while the action is in Seoul . They try to collaborate so that people are not killed and no massive destruction happens. Things go south when Oscar (played by Sudeikis) becomes the villain.
Colossal has plenty of funny moments and sarcasm and it is a combination of action, drama and comedy. I really liked the scene depicting the fight between the monster and the robot, which was amplified by dramatic music. Dan Stevens features for some brief moments, but in my opinion he could have well not been in the film.
His acting did not contribute too much to the story. The script is well written, and the action develops quite nicely, although it is slow in some places. The whole idea of the film is original and if I were to rate this film I would give it a mark of 7 out of 10.
Colossal is out in cinemas everywhere!
