If you haven’t heard of G-Dragon yet, really, where have you been?
Rapper, singer, song-writer, dancer, producer, fashion icon, the list could go on. At 28, Kwon Ji Yong, stage name, G-Dragon, has become a legit global superstar and I do not say that lightly.
One of the top selling artists in the world and member of K-pop rap phenomenon BIGBANG, G-Dragon seems unstoppable and has already been stamping his mark on the fashion and music industry while rubbing shoulders with the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Vetements, Kanye West, Missy Elliot, and again, the list could go on.
With so much going on with the rapper already, along with also releasing his own clothing line and announcing his North American tour starting July 11, what a surprise for fans to see the more vulnerable side of the sensation in his new single, “Untitled, (2014)” and mini-album, Kwon Ji Yong. Ranging from hip hop to r&b, Kwon’s latest release showcases a softer side to the rapper in comparison to his previous avant-garde approach in Coup d’Etat.
Personal, frank and stripped back, Kwon, reflects back on his life, career, successes and reminisces on past love. Fans and new listeners alike will love listening to the new 5-track album and seeing a different side to Kwon as “Ji Yong” rather than “G-Dragon.”
Since its release, Kwon Ji Yong has hit all major charts in South Korea and has received an “all-kill” for his new single, “Untitled, 2014.”
His new album is also no.1 on the iTunes World Album Charts and “Untitled, 2014” has hit no.1 on the iTunes charts in 39 countries. This makes G-Dragon the first Korean artist to do this and he has already beaten Coldplay and Ed Sheeran‘s latest releases. If that’s not enough to sway you to listen to Kwon Ji Yong, I honestly don’t know what is.
The new MV for “Untitled, 2014,” just like the song itself, is ambient, colourful, soothing and beautifully raw.
