In another strange move by Hollywood, STX Entertainment have released a trailer for a trailer for Molly’s Game, starring Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain. The teaser promises a full trailer tomorrow for writer Aaron Sorkin‘s long awaited directorial debut, and only adds to the overall anticipation for the film.
Molly’s Game is based on the true story of Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain) a 26-year-old woman who “ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons”. Molly was familiar with sports and Hollywood stars, but noone knew her better than her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey (Idris Elba) did.
The trailer doesn’t reveal too much about the film, but provides a good introduction to Jessica Chastain as Molly Bloom. It also hints at the impressive cast – no doubt gratuitous to Sorkin’s reputation – which includes, alongside Chastain and Elba, Chris O’Dowd, Kevin Costner, Bill Camp, and Michael Cera.
Sorkin’s name has become synonymous with masterpieces since penning A Few Good Men (1992). He then went on to write screenplays for Steve Jobs (2015), Moneyball (2010), and The Social Network (2010), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Writing.
Headliner Jessica Chastain has also made a good name for herself; her performances in The Help (2012) and Zero Dark Thirty (2013) each earned her Academy Award nominations to push her to international renown.
With its exceptional cast, talented writing, and as Sorkin’s directorial debut, Molly’s Game is sure to become one of the coming year’s most promising awards contenders. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles working behind the camera.
The full trailer for Molly’s Game will be released tomorrow, August 15, with the final film to debut November 22. Watch the trailer below.
