Everybody knows the song “1-800-273-8255” by Logic featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid which was released on April 28. The title of this song is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline phone number.
This single has been prominent on charts such as Billboard Hot 100 and Canadian Hot 100 upon its release, and on September 8, the track was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Logic also performanced the song at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, bringing it to the top three on the Billboard Hot 100.
However in typical fashion for American sitcom South Park, for their newest episode on Comedy Central, the creators decided to parody Logic’s VMA performance.
In the South Park clip, we can see one of the main character, Eric Cartman, dressed as the artist in a black hoodie, like in his VMA performance. While his classmates try to increase awareness of distracted driving, he starts singing the song using words such as “Eric, we don’t want you to die/Eric, give life a try”.
Of course there was some humor in this parody, but many followers didn’t like that the series was making fun of a topic such as suicide. Watch the clip below and decide for yourself.
