‘Baby Driver’ Star Ansel Elgort In Talks For ‘Goldfinch’ Adaptation | Film News

It was announced last month that Donna Tartt‘s acclaimed novel The Goldfinch was being adapted for the big screen by Amazon and Warner Bros., and we’re already being informed of a solid cast. After several meetings with potential candidates, director John Crowley (Brooklyn) has opted to give Ansel Elgort the lead role.

Elgort will play Theodore Decker, a young man who survives a terrorist attack in an art museum, but loses his mother. He leaves with a painting in hand – The Goldfinch – which eventually leads him into a world of danger and crime as he grows up. He finds himself living in Las Vegas with his deadbeat father, and soon gets involved in the world of art forgery.

The novel earned rave reviews for its Dickensian plot and strong characters, a success that likely attracted Elgort who seems to only be looking for big name hits. After his pivotal role in this summer’s Baby Driver, he’ll be looking to sustain a strong image in Hollywood, and has since attached himself to play John F. Kennedy in war pic Mayday 109.

The Goldfinch goes in production at the start of 2018, co-financed by Amazon Studios. Amazon thus receives the rights to stream the film on its Prime service, while Warner Bros. releases the film to theatres. Ansel Elgort can next be seen opposite Taron Egerton in The Billionaire Boys Club.
