Just days into its eighth season, Bob’s Burgers fans have even more to get hyped about as the show is being stretched for a feature length movie.
Fox announced the news as a plan to “redouble [their] family and animation efforts”. Creator Loren Bouchard acknowledged the difficulty of the task, commenting, “we know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show”.
“We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever-so-slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s — but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”.
With a July 17, 2020 release date, the movie will be the first theatrically released film from Fox since 2007’s The Simpsons Movie. The Simpsons Movie was widely enjoyed and praised for the voice actors’ performances, though some critics commented that the film added little else to the already established franchise.
Bob’s Burgers itself is a critically acclaimed show, having received seven straight Emmy nominations for Best Animated Series, winning in 2014 and 2017.
The show centers on Bob Belcher, a chef and restaurateur, and his eccentric family. H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Kristen Schaal, Eugene Mirman and Dan Mintz are among the voice artists on the show with guests including St. Vincent, Paul Rudd, and Aziz Ansari.
There’s still a while to go before the 2020 release, but in the meantime, you can enjoy the show’s Season 8 run.
