“Don’t make me wait, to love you” – the beautifully deep and thought-provoking lyric that rings true in the lastest collaboration from an unlikely pairing. Iconic British singer Sting teams up with the one and only Shaggy for a new song, simply entitled “Don’t Make Me Wait“. It might not be what we wanted but it’s definitely what we needed.
With the looping guitar chords, it’s fair game to say it’s definitely reggae-inspired, which honestly is right at home with Shaggy’s repertoire and compliments his distinctive voice. Sting definitely channels his inner reggae star into this one but it’s still quintessentially Sting as he adds sprinkles of his new wave sound and, essentially, his stamp of approval.
What was meant to be one song between long term friends has now apparently turned into a full-length album! “Don’t Make Me Wait” serves as the lead single off their upcoming joint album, 44/876 which will be released on April 20.
“The most important thing to me in any kind of music is surprise,” Sting told Rolling Stone in a recent interview. “And everybody is surprised by this collaboration – by what they’re hearing. We’re surprising.”
Until then, have a listen to the new song below. Let us know what you think.
