Global content studio Pulse Films today announces the production of Adam Smith’s biopic Wiley, a feature length adaptation of the life of the Grime music icon, with development by BMG.
Adam Smith’s new dramatic feature centres on the tumultuous and legendary life of the man credited as being the ‘Godfather of Grime’. The film will chronicle his early days as a struggling MC and producer on London pirate radio (when British Grime was not embraced by the mainstream) to making a worldwide name for himself as a figure reimagining UK music and ushering in a new generation of talent.
Recent times have been favourable to Wiley. In 2018, he was appointed an MBE at Buckingham Palace for his services to music, marking an historic milestone for a Grime artist. Wiley released his 12th studio album Godfather II on April 27, the follow up to 2017’s Godfather which garnered critical acclaim and became his highest charting album to date.
Adam Smith (Trespass Against Us), whose known the man since 2004, is an award-winning film and television drama director who garnered global acclaim for helming the award-winning Chemical Brothers documentary Don’t Think. Janaya Cowie, Wiley’s sister, along with close friend and SBTV founder Jamal Edwards, will serve as Executive Producers.
“This is my life, my highs and lows, but it’s not really all about me.” Wiley commented. “When I make music, help the scene or even do something like this it’s like I’m not alone any more. It’s for people who grew up like me. I’m doing it to help people who are lost like me.”
