For his commemorative birthday, June 15, Trapstar released a collection dedicated to a Hip-Hop icon. The West London streetwear brand have collaborated with the 2Pac estate to drop an exclusive line of clothes and accessories.
The myth of the American rapper is absolutely still influencing the music scene and his style is kept alive. During the 22 years that have followed his mysterious death, loads of initiatives had been undertaken and today Forbes recognize 2Pac as a “Top-Earning Dead Celebrity“, coming in at number ten on their list.
In 2003, six years after he passed away, the Makaveli Branded Clothing was launched by 2Pac’s mother Afeni Shakur, and it is the official line of Tupac Shakur, created by Paul Meltzer, who licensed the rights from Afeni, and Rick Barlowe, her partner.
The brand’s purpose is keeping the legacy of Tupac Shakur alive through fashion and moreover, a portion of each sale from Makaveli Branded is donated to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation and Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Atlanta, Georgia.
Trapstar moved on the same direction, proposing an European initiative that follows the US original ones. Mikey Trapstar, co-founder and creative director of the label used exclusive 2Pac images, his poetry, and artwork for the collaboration, which arrived on June 16.
He sincerely confessed his admiration for the dead icon and this is his way to pay homage and preserve his memory; moreover, the brand curated a special playlist linked to the collection available on Spotify and Apple Music.
The range includes tees, sweats, and accessories and is available online and at the London shop.
